Farmer Endorsements
Justin and Janina Slee, J & J Slee Dairies, Oamaru. Healthy Soils’ knowledge proved to be invaluable to us and their products gave us the kick start that we needed. This year’s first application of urea was 5.5kgs, down from 100kgs in past years, with very good grass growth. The 5.5kgs we put on was mixed with Healthy Soils products, liquidized and sprayed on.
Our soils are a lot healthier which shows in the newly established worm life, roots going down 8-10 inches and thatch that's almost gone. Our pasture has never looked better. Recent brix testing is now showing levels up around the 9 mark which we are extremely pleased about. This in turn has improved our animal health significantly and production is still growing nicely. We feel that we are well on the way to where we want to be and without Healthy Soils expertise and knowledge this would have been very difficult.
Tony and Amanda Chapman, Kurow, Oamaru, farm owners. In 2005 I was introduced to the Healthy Soils concept of caring for and nurturing the soil on our farm. Over the past four years I have seen many gradual, beneficial improvements to our farm, to the extent that now, five years on, the changes are very obvious.
They include: A very real improvement in stock health and a much reduced need for drenching. Bearing problems have reduced from approx one per day, to less than one per week. The farm was thick with Californian thistles at the outset of the programme, now there are virtually none. In 2008, I converted 300 Ha of the farm to dairying and in the first season, production was well above target. This season, the production level is 37% above target.
